Izumo Area (Eastern Shimane)

Izumo Taisha, Izumo Grand shrine in Izumo City
This is the most sacred and the oldest shrine as well as Ise Jinguu shrine in Mie Prefecture. The god, Okuninushi, the descendant of Susanoh is enshrined. Welcoming the envoy from the Emperor, Grand installation ceremony took place for the first time in 60 years last year. This site is known as the divine grace of good relationship and happy matchmaking.
Matsue Castle in Matsue City

Matsue Castle is one of only 12 castles remaining in Japan. And it is one of the few remaining original wooden structure in Japan. It is the 2nd largest and 6th oldest among them. It was completed in 1611. This castle was designed for real battle, which is so simple but authentic.
There is also an authentic Samurai house near the castle along the moat. The house Lafcadio Hearn used to live stands near by the Samurai house.

Lake Shinji in Matsue City

Lake Shinji is famous for its beautiful sunset in Japan.

World heritage Iwami Ginzan Silver Mine
This site was registered as a Unesco World Heritage in 2007. Since the discovery of this mine in 1526, its prosperity as the most famous mine in the world lasted 400 years. In its heyday, this mine provided about one third of whole silver in the world. You can walk through the tunnel of this mine and look in the culture here.
Adachi Museum of Art
The Japanese garden of this museum is designated as the top grade in the American Journal of Japanese Garden. Beside the beautiful Japanese garden, you can enjoy varous kinds of Japanese arts including the works of Yokoyama Taikan and other famous artists in Japan.
